Here’s the most important thing you need to know about Mandy K Shucher: she is the most dependable bass player with whom you’ll ever work. She’s easy to get along with and has a near-encyclopedic knowledge of country and rock bass playing. Need to know more than that?
Mandy hails from the small west Texas town of Floydada. Like most musicians born in the Bible belt, she began playing guitar in church under the instruction of her grandfather when she was 13. As a student at Floydada High School she was an award-winning trombonist for the Whirlwind Marching/Concert Band, and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Praise & Worship team.
“I was blessed as a youngster to be surrounded by such musically diverse inspirations. I learned the classics at school, as well as some classic rock. At my grandparents house I learned Ernest Tubb and George Jones; and, at home I got a healthy dose of KISS and Billy Idol! What more could an 80s kid ask for?!”
The world-renowned Commercial Music program at South Plains College was Mandy’s next stop. After her first semester, she picked up a bass guitar for the first time and instantly fell in love. She spent 3 years studying at SPC, while simultaneously touring the state with Texas Country artists Wes Nickson and Down1450. After a brief stint in Austin, Mandy ventured out to Nashville, TN – a place she would soon call home. Nashville was made for a bass player who works as hard as Mandy. Her first year in town, she played seven days a week at the famous Broadway honky-tonks, often double and triple shifts. Her talent and work ethic were recognized by the hard-touring, country-rock powerhouse Mustang Sally, who snatched her up in 2007. While with MSB, Mandy toured the world with stops in Switzerland, Guam, Guantanamo Bay and 35 states in the US (including Hawaii!). From 2016 – 2017 she worked with singer-songwriter Ward Davis as Bassist, Musical Director and Tour Manager.
“College prepared me very well for being a working Nashville musician. I played in 3 high-demand, heavy workload, and intense promotional bands at SPC … at the same time! Not to mention my “actual gigs” outside of school! So, it was business as usual for me when I hit the Nashville pavement at a dead sprint.”
Mandy also plays live with local songwriters, on studio sessions, and a few extra shifts here and there on Broadway. Her down-to-earth attitude and consummate professionalism keep her in demand around Nashville.
